Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Investigators for the National Intelligence Service Bureau in Texas, Craig and Rogers say at the outset that their book "is not easily categorized." Much of it, in fact, reads like a true crime story, except that the criminal is never discovered or caught. For the authors, however, there is no doubt that Charles Rogers, a brilliant, reclusive man who was a CIA agent in Houston, brutally killed his elderly parents in 1965, cut up their bodies and stuffed them in a refrigerator before disappearing. It is not until well into the book that the reader realizes that, according to the authors, the motive for the murder was that Rogers's mother had been keeping track of her son's many mysterious phone calls--and that numerous circumstances, including photographs taken of several "tramps" arrested at the JFK assassination in Dallas 18 months previously, suggested that Rogers was one of two assassins who fired the fatal shots at President Kennedy from the famous grassy knoll of the title (and was also probably the man impersonating Lee Harvey Oswald in Mexico City). The authors do a workmanlike job with their thesis, but the degree of poetic licence, in terms of reconstructed dialogue and attributed thought, seems excessive here, and sourcing is virtually nonexistent. Assassination buffs, however, will welcome the book for its novelty value and its easy readability.

I only heard about this guy because of True Crime Garage and their two-part podcast on how Charles murdered his parents in their Houston home in the 1960s and then put them in pieces in the fridge. Then disappeared! What?! The boys at TCG have the best coverage of old crimes! Anyway, now I was onto Charles and had to seek out this book, expecting far less than I got. Highly recommended. It's a little overly detailed if there can be such a thing for true crime fans. (fact check, false. Nothing is overly detailed.) It's also vintage and I'm loving it. Almost done! Then I have this perfect vintage paperback with its yellowing pages that no one can find to buy anywhere. I do recommend listening to the podcast first. Old episodes are free and on Stitcher. They are called The Ice Box Murders (part one and two) from November 2020. Then find the book.

This book purchased as a gift. The recipient was extremely pleased with it. I read the book many years ago and found the conspiracy theory quite intriguing. I was held spellbound as if reading a novel.

    Research Paper
  • Reviewed in the United States on September 8, 2022
    Format: Paperback
A historical conspiracy theory presented as a novel, with plenty of circumstantial evidence. The chain of actors and their links to Bay of Pigs, Cuba and Mexico are, reportedly, well documented at the time of the assassination of president Kennedy. Book description of the main characters adds to the understanding of plot and political motive, along with the psychopathic nature of the alleged assassin and his connection to the infamous events. Reportedly, the authors spent many years and their own funds in researching and putting the plot together. This is a page-turner that should be made into a movie or TV series (which would put to shame some central government officials entangled with the Marcello mafia at those times).

I think this book is the best information about the JFK assassination to date. When you put the facts together with what
we all know about how it went down, you feel like you know the real answer and you wonder why this wasn't investigated
and reported honestly. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to know the truth of the JFK killing
You cannot put this book down once you have started reading it. I also know about guns. If you know guns you know
Oswald did not have the equipment to do what he set out to. He was just a patsy..

I have read a lot of books on the JFK assissination.
This book caught my eye for that reason. However, once I began reading it, this book kept my attention. It read like a novel. I liked that, it was a switch from the usual fact presented like facts JFK conspiracy books. I liked that about this book. It certainly had me convinced that this guy had something to do with the JFK murder. It made me wonder why we didn't do more then in regards to this guy.
The book was gory when talking about the dismemberment of his mother and father. I really didn't like that. I'm not sure that it added much to the book except some length. However, it did make me realize that this was the type of man who would do what he thought needed to be done and might certainly shoot at a president.
This book is very interesting and those interested in reading about the JFK assassination would do well to consider reading this book. It is an easy one to skip over with the massive amounts of books available to read. However, the novel like feel of this does not detract from the research completed and conclusions drawn in this book.

This book is fantastic. It grabs you from the very beginning and you can't put it down. The research is also extremely impressive. It is a real-life mystery murder that unfolds in shocking ways with information that really gets you thinking. I highly recommend it for anyone who is interested in getting an answer to who really shot Kennedy.

The book starts well but then seems to lose direction. At the end I regretted having bought it, as it did not really enlighten me as to the facts, if any, concerning a shooter other than Oswald at the scene of the assasination. the book suggests more than it can document.
